The Movie Audience Review

Most film reviews focus on specific movies; writers use their clever wit and command of the language to impart insight and perspective about a specific piece of work. That’s all well and good, but I’m finding it increasingly difficult to compare my own impressions with that of any review because the fat thirty-five year old man-boy behind me keeps kicking my seat while spewing popcorn husks with every hurried exhale of hyper-caffeinated smokers breath.

I recently attempted to see the release of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy starring Gary Oldman.  Suffice it to say that this film was trying to be true to the period it was attempting to portray with quiet, anxious scenes reminiscent of the early 70s spy thriller.  Except in 2012 that’s impossible.  Movie audiences today are comprised mainly of Darwinian hangers-on that see the theatre experience as simply a 90 minute respite from other Mall activity.  Unlike Mall shoppers of earlier times, where a person may find themselves at a shopping mall to actually buy clothing or shop for gifts, today’s adult mall goers are simply trying to revisit their childhood, which in essence, was hanging out in them to avoid school .
